Irwin Fein

Irwin Fein, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and proud American, passed away peacefully at the age of 89. Born on March 26, 1936, in Brooklyn, New York, to Sidney and Lena Fein, Irwin carried with him throughout his life the enduring values of family, integrity, and quiet strength.

Irwin’s life was forever changed at the age of 19, when he met the love of his life, Janet, in a Brooklyn bowling alley. In what seemed like a small moment — helping to hang up coats — a lifelong partnership was born. Irwin and Janet were married on January 23, 1960, and together they built more than six decades of love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Janet often said that Irwin was the most honorable person she ever knew — and those who had the privilege of knowing him would agree without hesitation.

Irwin’s greatest pride in life was his children. He was overjoyed to become a father — first to Anne and then to Sidney — and he never stopped marveling at the people they became. He admired Anne’s warmth, strength, and generosity, and took great joy in watching her build a life filled with purpose and love. He was equally proud of Sidney’s intellect, thoughtfulness, and strong sense of responsibility, and loved seeing him grow into a devoted husband and father. To Irwin, being their dad was the most meaningful role he ever played — and nothing made him happier than seeing his children thrive.

Irwin was also a deeply loving and devoted grandfather. His grandchildren — Jacqueline, Gabriel, Dylan, and Joshua — were the pride and joy of his life. He cherished every moment he spent with them and would go to any length to bring them happiness. Some of his fondest memories were of family dinners with Anne, Bob, and Jacqueline, filled with spirited conversation and laughter.

He also embraced Janet’s family as his own, developing a strong bond with her brother Jon and all the Goldmans, Vacchios, Partlands, Bogards, and Reilly’s. He found joy in the closeness of extended family, always showing warmth, respect, and appreciation for being part of their lives.

Irwin proudly served his country in the United States Army, entering as a private and rising to the rank of Sergeant. His deep sense of duty and patriotism were hallmarks of his character — as was his humility. He never sought praise, but he lived by his principles, always doing what was right, even when no one was watching.

Professionally, Irwin was a respected accounting executive who rose to the role of Chief Financial Officer. Known for his sharp mind and unshakable integrity, he earned the admiration of colleagues, employees, and friends alike. Irwin wasn’t just a boss — he was a mentor and a friend. He built real, lasting relationships in the workplace, grounded in respect, kindness, and loyalty.

Outside of work, Irwin nourished a variety of passions. He was a talented painter, especially of peaceful landscapes that mirrored his calm and thoughtful nature. A history enthusiast, he found particular joy in learning about Jewish history and the Civil War. He enjoyed the challenge and strategy of chess, the rhythm and competition of tennis, and he never missed an opportunity to indulge his sweet tooth — especially if there was a hot fudge sundae or a Napoleon involved.

Irwin also had a love of music and found resonance in the words of Frank Sinatra’s My Way. Janet would often say it was his theme song: “I’ve lived a life that’s full... I did it my way.” And he truly did.

In 2016, a profound blessing came into Irwin and Janet’s lives when Anne, Bob, and Jacqueline moved in with them. The love and care they provided gave Irwin and Janet exactly what they needed in their later years — comfort, companionship, and unwavering support. It was a beautiful and selfless act of love that Irwin treasured deeply.

Irwin is survived by his beloved wife Janet; his loving children, Sid (Larisa) and Anne (Bob); and his four adored grandchildren. He will be remembered always as a man of quiet strength, unwavering honor, and deep kindness. His life touched everyone who knew him — and his legacy lives on in the family he cherished and the example he set.
